Each value is converted to the category's base unit and then to the unit you chose: metres for length, kilograms for weight, litres for volume and metres per second for speed. 10 kilometres is 10,000 metres, and 10,000 ÷ 1,609.344 is about 6.2137 miles.
Temperature scales do not start from the same zero, so they use formulas instead of a single factor: °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32, and K = °C + 273.15. That is why 0 °C is 32 °F and 100 °C is 212 °F.
